707 announce sponsorship of UK cycling team
707 is delighted to announce they have agreed sponsorship of one of the top UK cycling teams for the 2009 season.
The team, which will now be renamed the Wildside 707 Racing Team, has dominated cycling in the South East in recent years.
They have an excellent reputation as an extremely professional and successful team competing in elite races in the UK and Belgium and will be looking to build on this in 2009.
Ashley Holding, the team manager, said "We are delighted to have 707 on board to help support the team both at the races and also to help raise our profile throughout the UK".
Cycling has recently gained enormous popularity in the UK, mainly thanks to the success of British riders over the last few years and especially after the incredible Beijing Olympics gold rush. Riders such as Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins, Victoria Pendleton and Mark Cavendish are now household names, however there is still an enormous lack of interest and funding at the grass roots level of the sport.
It is often difficult for the smaller teams to survive on such tight budgets in what can be an expensive sport. 707 believes that the development of these smaller clubs is vital for the future of the sport in the UK.
707 chairman Matt Miles commented "We are really excited about our involvement with this very successful team. It is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the environment and promote our authentic, active and ethical UK brand. "
Matt, who is working towards qualification as a British Cycling coach, added "In order for cycling to be sustainable in the future it is vital that new riders are attracted to the sport by teams that portray an image of professionalism and enjoyment. One of our main aims for the future will be the coaching and development of these new riders."
707 will not only be supporting the team financially but Matthew and Managing Director Graeme Rose will also be putting their racing shoes on and riding for the team next year. The team is yet to announce its racing program for 2009 but will be attending an official launch soon.
