Jarek Orlik, a dustman working at the Basingstoke Household Waste Recycling Centre in Hampshire was given a shock when he found a grenade in amongst the rubbish. Orlik discovered the grenade whilst sorting through a white bag of rubbish that had been put in one of the bins.
Realising the gravity of the situation, he then took it to his manager who then called the police.
A bomb disposal team and officers rapidly made there way to the Household Waste Recycling Centre and immediately ordered its evacuation.
Experts who assessed the hand grenade discovered that the explosives had been removed and that the device posed no risk.
